Biography

Martin Boyce's installations made of industrial materials such as metal, neon or pressed wood reflect our urban environment between the extreme poles of function/dysfunction and construction/deconstruction. They thematise the failure of the hopeful urban planning and design theoretical drafts of the post-war period whereby the artist draws the picture of a counter-world hidden in the abysses of this failure. Boyce hence points to the possibility of a hidden secret inner life within the objects which has passed by undiscovered.

„Dead Star is a chain mobile with what appears to be stripped out lanterns, the light fittings are cast in bronze and painted making any potential illumination impossible. They are litterally Dead Stars."
