Sara Birns (1992, Santa Cruz, US) received her BS from the University of Oregon in 2014. Making use of old master oil painting techniques, Sara Birns creates surrealistic compositions where her own physical features and those of many other individuals fuse to form new life. Her portraits tamper and morph the cues one typically employs in order to recognize a person; attributes such as personal style, facial features or expressions and occasionally glimpses of environments or situations the subjects find themselves in. The volatile nature of her works reflects the impossibility of capturing the shifting, ever-evolving essence of human existence in its entirety. Her work has been exhibited throughout the US and internationally, both in solo and group shows. Birns' work is also part of important permanent collections, such as the Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection and The Christine & Andy Hall Collection. Sara Birns participated in the Palazzo Monti artist residency in Brescia, Italy, in 2022.
